Required Ingredients
1 ¾ | Cup | Cake flour |
½ | Teaspoon | Soda |
½ | Teaspoon | Salt |
½ | Cup | Bakers cocoa |
½ | Cup | Shortening |
1 | Cup | Sugar |
½ | Cup | Milk |
1 | | Egg |
1 | Teaspoon | Vanilla |
1 | Bag | Marshmallows |
| | Glaze: |
½ | Cup | Bakers cocoa |
1 ½ | Cup | Powdered sugar |
3 | Tablespoon | Hot water |
⅓ | Cup | Melted butter |
| | Decoration: |
1 | Tube | Orange Icing (from baking section of most markets in the Fall) |
Preparation Instructions
- Sift flour, soda, salt and cocoa
- Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Beat in egg.
- To sugar, shortening and egg mixture add flour mixture alternatively with milk, one quarter of each at a time.
- Drop by the teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets and bake for 8 minutes in a preheated 375 degree oven.
- While cookies bake cut about 2 dozen marshmallows in half horizontally.
- Remove cookies from oven and place one half marshmallow on each cookie, cut side down. Return to oven for an addition 4 minutes of baking. (4 min seems to overcook marshmallows...try 2-3)
- Remove marshmallow topped cookies from oven and flatten each one slightly with your hand to make level surface for decorating.
- While cookies cool, make the glaze by sifting together the cocoa and powdered sugar and stirring in the hot water and melted butter.
- When cookies are cool, glaze. When glaze is cool use a tube of orange decorating icing to make a crazy/spooky halloween face on the top of each cooky. Have fun; be creative!
